Amb. April Foley
April H. Foley is a member of the Ambassadorial Advisory Council of the Atlantic Council. She served as the United States Ambassador to Hungary from 2006-2009. Ambassador Foley serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Hungary Initiatives Foundation. She has been an Independent Director of Vista Outdoor, Inc., since January 2015.
Ambassador Foley has had an extensive career in professional management. In 2003, she was appointed to be First Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the US. Ambassador Foley drove the creation of the Trade Bank of Iraq. She was one of six Americans on the American-Iraqi Joint Economic Council, which laid plans for strengthening the economic performance of Iraq. Ambassador Foley worked with the Minister of Finance of Afghanistan to create a development strategy that laid the groundwork for foreign direct investment. She worked for 17 years as an executive for PepsiCo in roles including strategic planning, financial management, and mergers and acquisitions.
She served as an independent director for Xerium Technologies Inc. from 2010 until 2018 and for Alliant Techsystems Inc. from 2010 to 2015. She also worked for Wilson Sporting Goods, Pfizer, and The Reader’s Digest.
In addition to her business experience, she holds significant volunteer leadership positions. She serves on the board of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. She served as a member of the Smith College Board of Trustees, where she was Chair of the Investment Committee. She is a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. She sits on the President’s Council for Northern Westchester Hospital.
She holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Smith College.
