George Floridis was born in Kilkis, Greece in 1956. He studied Law at the Universities of Thrace and Thessaloniki and worked as an attorney. He served as Governor of Kilkis and as a Member of the Greek Parliament for 13 years, elected with PASOK party in five consecutive elections. He also served as Minister for Public Order, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Deputy Minister of Culture, charged with preparing and managing the 2004 Athens Olympic Games as well as Deputy Finance Minister, responsible for Greece's national budget. In June 2011, he resigned from his parliamentary seat and returned to his previous law career. He is married and a father of two.
